The sisters were remarkably alike in looks, but actually there were many differences. Dusky Kate was a beauty, a real show mare, but she was simply not interested. Her show career was in-hand, such as Grand Champion mare at the Lippitt Country Show for the owners who had bought her from Greem Mountain Stock Farm at the &#8217;52 auction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Duplicate was the opposite of her laid back sister. She was extremely nervous but gave it all she had. Eventually she left the ring for the life of a broodmare with a change of owners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It is a great loss for Lippitt breeders that the blood of these two gorgeous mares (and the full brother, Lippitt Ethan, who had been gelded) was lost. Also lost was the young stallion, Lippitt Pegasus. He died during an operation for a scrotal hernia, thus that line was lost. Lippitt Pegasus was sired by Lippitt Sam out of Lippitt Dusky Kate. Such is the fate of animal breeding.
