Happy Friday! Here is your Friday Flashback, this time a piece by Bill Clarke about his Lippitt stallion Nabob Morgan (Ethan Eldon x Justine Morgan).
Nabob Morgan
Foaled in 1945 for Dana Kelley, out of Justine Morgan, sired by Ethan Eldon. I bought him as a 2 year old, small but a neat package. He was a coppery chestnut with some white in the face. He matured at 14.2 H. He had excellent bone, plenty of type and substance all the way, and a credit to his breed. He was always full of spirit but not mean and always was tractable. In later years, he became more of a handful at breeding; however, he was not so bad but that I did practically all of it by myself. I used him in work harness to hay manure, harrow, on a stone boat, to pull out rocks, etc. He was driven extensively on both two and four wheeled vehicles and a sleigh; also used on a one-horse work wagon and sled. I covered a lot of miles on him under saddle and my wife rode him many times in mixed company. She also took care of him many times when I was too sick to get out. We had many odd experiences with him over the years. He was put down at about 21 years with a twisted intestine. Otherwise, he was 100% sounds, though he carried a sizable scar from a kick while breeding a barefoot mare. He was shown twice, and then only in halter at a country fair to help keep alive a class for eight horses, all breeds. Many people stopped by here to look at him and he was well known by many passers-by. He was a real pleasure, if at times somewhat of a worry.
