Friday Flashback – February 27, 2015 Rob Roy 4483

Happy Friday! Here is your Friday Flashback:

“Rob Roy 4483 was bred by Melissa Kelley of Bradford, VT and foaled in 1893. His sire was Ethan Allen 2nd, 406, and his dam was a granddaughter of Peters, 405, the sire of Ethan Allen 2nd. Rob Roy’s dam was out of a mare who was a double granddaughter of Peter’s Vermont 403, the sire of Peter’s 405, so Rob Roy has 3 crosses to Peter’s Vermont 403. In all, he has 23 crosses to Woodbury, 5 to Bulrush, and 4 to Sherman – making him a true “Woodbury.”

Rob Roy sired 6 Lippitts: Green Mountain Twilight; Emily; Bobbie Niblock and Daniel L. Cady – both out of Hippolyta; and Resolute and Adeline Bundy out of Rose of Sutton; Roosevelt Schuyler out of Nancy. Only Adeline Bundy and Green Mountain Twilight have come down to us today.

Rose of Sutton was bred by L.H. Pond of Sutton, VT and foaled in 1904. Although her sire line is Woodbury, she is really a “Sherman.” She has 18 crosses to Sherman and 11 to Woodbury and 2 in Bulrush. Six of her crosses to Sherman are through the great Billy Root 9 and four are through Batchelder 17.

(Rose of Sutton’s) sire, Bob Morgan, was one of the best Vermont Stallions of his time. He was noted for his type, action and temperament as well as being a show ring success.”
